Gym instructor nabbed for car theft
MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – A personal trainer working for a large chain of fitness gyms was arrested for car theft charges Thursday night.
Paul Joshua Corpuz, 28, was arrested by the Philippine National Police (PNP) Highway Patrol Group for allegedly stealing a Honda Civic (GSV 155) from his then girlfriend Wendy Puyat in February 2010.
Corpuz sold the vehicle to a certain Mark Bautista of Batangas without Puyat's permission.
Bautista later learned that the car was stolen when he tried to register it.
Corpuz, who works as a fitness instructor for the ABS-CBN branch of Fitness First, is now under the custody of the PNP-HPG.
He was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by Mandaluyong Regional Trial Court Branch 212 Judge Rizalina Capco-Umali.
The court recommended a P180,000 bail for Corpuz.
The personal trainer is facing a charge of violating Republic Act 6539, or the “Anti-Carnapping Act of 1972”. – reports from Arnell Ozaeta, dzMM; and Gus Abelgas, ABS-CBN News
