MANILA -- The commander of the Army Explosive and Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Division was relieved from his position pending the investigation on the fire that ravaged the EOD headquarters in Fort Bonifacio last May 7, a military official said.

Army spokesman Lt. Col. Noel Detoyato said Army Chief Lt. Gen. Hernando Iriberri has ordered the relief of Lt. Col. Florante Sison as commander of the Army EOD Division based on command responsibility.

Detoyato added the Army chief issued the order based on the recommendation of the Board of Inquiry that looked into the incident.

Investigation showed that the fire was due to ignition caused by friction.

Meanwhile, the fire has claimed a third fatality, identified as 1Lt. Dinar Alosada, who died Wednesday at the East Avenue Medical Center.

The two other fatalities were enlisted personnel.

The fire, which caused a series of explosions, has also injured 30 others, including civilian firefighters.
