2 Pinay fugitives nabbed for 'bad checks'
MANILA, Philippines – Two Filipinas wanted for violating Batas Pambansa (BP) 22 or the Anti-Bouncing Checks Law have been arrested by the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).
QCPD Chief Supt. Mario Dela Vega said 56-year-old Marilyn Ong was arrested at Alabang Zapote Road in Muntinlupa City, and 55-year-old Edna Alfuerto was nabbed at Malingap St., Brgy. Teacher's Village in Quezon City.
Police said a certain Thomas Lim sought the assistance of QCPD District Investigation Division for the arrests in relation to bad checks worth P5,507,000.
Dela Vega said further investigation revealed that Ong is also involved in a $80 million scheme that defrauded the Export-Import Bank of US.
Royal Embassy of Belgium had also filed a civil case against Ong and Alfuerto regarding the lease of premises owned by the Kingdom of Belgium, police said.
The courts have been informed of the arrests of the suspects, who are currently under the custody of QCPD in Camp Karingal.
Ong is a businesswoman residing at 38 Ecology Village Brgy. Pio del Pilar, Makati. Alfuerto is a treasury manager of Stoneworks Company from North Fairview, Quezon City. -- Report from Alex Santos, ABS-CBN News
