One last angle pursued in Esmeralda ambush
MANILA, Philippines - The probe into the ambush on National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Deputy Director for Technical Services Reynaldo Esmeralda in February will soon be wrapped up, with only one angle ordered pursued by Justice Secretary Leila De Lima before the findings are made public.
De Lima said the findings will soon be made public unless this last matter significantly changes the results of the investigation and warrants a deeper probe.
"Malapit ko na yan i-aanounce, mayroon na lang isa na kailangan tingnan nang husto. I have an instruction on the leadership of the NBI to look into that particular angle before I make an announcement with respect to the results... unless magkaroon ng very significant development na masisira yung mga ebidensya ngayon na hawak na namin, ready na kami na i-announce yan," she said.
Esmeralda and his brother survived the attack with minor injuries.
The group was ambushed at the vicinity of the Lucban Elementary School in Paco, Manila by motorcycle-riding gunmen while on their way home from the NBI headquarters.
