Illegal slaughterhouse in QC raided
MANILA -- The Quezon City Health Department's Veterinary Services raided an illegal slaughterhouse in Barangay Pansol, Quezon City Saturday morning.
The slaughterhouse is owned by a certain Elmer Rivera, who also owns a meat shop.
According to Dr. Anamarie Cabel, the slaughterhouse does not have a permit from the government. It also does not go through the process of meat inspection.
Four newly-slaughtered pigs were confiscated from the slaughterhouse.
The team also saw some of the pig pens located near the residents' houses, giving off a foul odor.
Allen Basco, a butcher, was arrested, while Rivera has yet to be located.
He will be charged with violation of the Meat Inspection Code, Revenue Code and Sanitation Code, with fines ranging from P200,000 to P1 million.
Authorities also shut down Rivera's E-Fresh Meat Shop in Barangay Pansol, which is one of the meat shops selling meat from the illegal slaughterhouse. -- report from Dexter Ganibe, DZMM
