Miriam students positive for A (H1N1); classes to continue
MANILA - Three students of Miriam College High School (MCHS) in Quezon City are the latest reported victims of influenza A (H1N1), school authorities confirmed Monday.
MCHS Assistant Principal for Student Affairs Ines de Guzman confirmed the information.
Two of the three cases were a junior and a senior who were already absent from school since June 11, while the third case was of another senior student, a classmate of the second case.
The two senior students are members of the school dance troupe and were both part of a summer workshop.
As a contingency measure, the school sent home 22 other members of the dance troupe.
De Guzman, who is also head of the school's Infection Control Team , said that the school has decided not to suspend classes since the cycle of the illness does not guarantee that after ten days the virus would not spread again.
However, she said that concerned parents may or may not allow their children to go to school. Those who opt not to go to school will be given academic support to keep up with lessons missed, she said.
Classrooms in the school's high school department have also been disinfected, the school official said. With a report from Joey Villarama, ABS-CBN News
