Police arrested 16 suspects in a raid at a drug den in Dasmariñas, Cavite earlier this week, the National Bureau of Investigation said Wednesday.

NBI Director Nestor Mantaring said agents of the NBI Anti-Illegal Drugs Task Force first conducted surveillance of the shabu "tiangge" for several weeks before conducting the raid. He said the drug den was dubbed a "shabungan" (a play on the Filipino word 'sabungan' or cockpit).

Similar to the massive drug den in Pasig City, the Cavite drug den was considered a "one-stop shop" for drug users to buy and use shabu.

Mantaring said a shabu "maintainer" responsible for selling the drugs was arrested in the raid. Police also arrested 15 customers of the drug den.

Seized in the raid were shabu paraphernalia and money amounting to P288,000.

Police said the Ilano Drug Syndicate was responsible for running the drug den.
