Barrameda murder suspect nabbed
MANILA, Philippines - Police have arrested a suspect in the Ruby Rose Barrameda murder case.
Former police officer Lennard Descalzo, alias Spyke, was caught in Mariveles, Bataan.
He is now detained at the Malabon City jail.
Manuel Montero, a suspect who turned witness in the case, had identified Descalzo as the one who strangled the victim.
Ruby Rose, a sister of actress Rochelle Barrameda, went missing in 2007.
In 2009, the victim's body was found stuffed inside a steel drum dumped in the waters off Navotas.
"Di ko siya makakalimutan sa lahat. Siya ang sumakal, nagposas, tumadyak kay Ruby kaya nabali ang ribs niya... Isipin na lang niya may pamilya rin siya," said Rochelle.
Descalzo was arrested in his home in Barangay Mountainview Subdivision, Mariveles.
An arrest warrant was issued against him in 2009, but the suspect went to Saudi Arabia and worked there for a year, police said.
He moved to Cavite, Batangas, and Bataan after he returned to the country.
Montero has accused Lope Jimenez, owner of the Buena Suerte Jimenez Fishing Company in Malabon and uncle of Ruby Rose's husband Manuel Jimenez III, as the mastermind behind the killing.
The witness is a former employee of the Jimenez family.
Aside from Descalzo, Lope, and Manuel, murder charges have also been filed against lawyer Manuel Jimenez Jr., the father-in-law of Ruby Rose; Eric Fernandez, and Robert Ponce. - Report from Maan Macapagal, ABS-CBN News; ANC
