MANILA (5th UPDATE) – A slightly strong earthquake jolted parts of Metro Manila Wednesday night.

Phivolcs said the epicenter of the earthquake was 40 kilometers northeast of Polillo Island.

Tremors were felt at around 7:05 p.m. in parts of Metro Manila and several Luzon provinces.

Phivolcs initially said the quake was measured at a magnitude 4.4, but later adjusted it to a magnitude 4.7.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said the earthquake was magnitude 4.9, with its epicenter at 9 kilometers east northeast of Burdeos, Quezon.

Phivolcs said Intensity 3 was felt in Quezon City; Labo, Camarines Norte; Infanta, Quezon; and Arayat, Pampanga.

Intensity 2 was felt in Makati, Muntinlupa, Pasay, Antipolo, Mandaluyong, Taguig, Jumalig in Quezon, Palayan City, and San Jose del Monte in Bulacan.

Intensity 1 was felt in Caloocan City and Angeles City, Pampanga.

Phivolcs deputy director Bart Bautista said damages are not expected from the quake.

“Madalas ho ‘yan, normal ‘yang nangyayari sa lugar na ‘yan sa Polillo Islands…Medyo may kahinaan ‘yung lindol, especially hindi naman highly developed ‘yung Polillo Islands, hindi tayo nage-expect ng damage diyan,” Bautista told “TV Patrol.”

Phivolcs said minor aftershocks are expected, but some may not even be felt.

“Tinitignan ngayon namin kung ito ba ay foreshock to a bigger event. So part ng standard operating procedure namin ay tignan ‘yung progress ng mga nagaganap doon sa paligid ng epicenter ng lindol,” said Phivolcs Supervising Science Research Specialist Ishmael Narag.

No casualties or damages have been reported, as of posting.

Some Quezon City residents shared that they felt fear during the brief but strong tremors.

“Bina-balance ko lang kasi may trauma na din ako sa mga lindol before eh,” said Gimo Lanot. -- With a report from Jacque Manabat, ABS-CBN News
