Jonas Burgos's ma slams 'suspects' promotion
The mother of missing activist Jonas Burgos on Thursday scored the government for promoting three military junior officers involved in the abduction to full colonels.
“The promotion of these men only confirms the truth in our claim that the government, the state forces are behind the disappearances,” Burgos's mother, Edita, said in a statement.
Mrs. Burgos was referring to the promotions of Noel Clement, Milquiades Feliciano and Edison Caga to full colonels. The three junior military officers were accused of involved in Burgos's abduction in 2007.
Clement was the commanding officer of the Philippine Army's 56th Infantry Battalion, the military unit based in Bulacan. The military unit's camp is where a vehicle with plate number TAB-194, which was allegedly used by Burgos's abductors, was impounded.
Clement and Feliciano and other military personnel have been ordered by the Supreme Court to release Jonas and to explain the basis for his detention through the issuance of a writ of habeas corpus.
Mrs. Burgos said the promotion of the junior officers also breaks the military's protocol on promotions, which excludes personnel with pending cases.
