MANILA, Philippines - The Armed Forces will be deploying teams of bomb experts and K-9 units to help secure the inauguration of incoming President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III at the Quirino grandstand in Manila on Wednesday.

“It's a precautionary measure to double the security, just to make sure that everything will be okay,” military spokesman Lt. Col. Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos told reporters in Camp Aguinaldo.

Burgos said the military will deploy 6 teams of Explosive and Ordnance Division members and 6 teams of K-9 units on the request of the Philippine National Police, which is the lead agency in securing the inauguration.

Burgos said the military deployment does not necessarily mean that there is a threat to the occasion. He said the deployment of EOD and K9 teams are normal during high-profile events.

Burgos said the AFP will have 2 battalions on standby at the NCRcom headquarters. He said these battalions will not be deployed to the streets unless requested by the PNP.

Also, Burgos said a battalion-size honor guard will be at the Quirino grandstand to render honors to the outgoing and incoming presidents.
