Binay's driver in hit-and-run faces raps
MANILA, Philippines – Charges have been filed against the driver of Makati Mayor Jejomar “Junjun” Binay Jr., who was involved in a hit-and-run incident along Osmeña Highway in Manila on Thursday.
The suspect, Eduardo Herrera, is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and physical injuries.
However, police said Herrera may face more charges for fleeing after he hit 12-year-old boy Joshua Danao and his father Rolando with a Mitsubishi Adventure.
Danao was killed in the incident while his father sustained injuries.
Herrera was arrested in Makati after he was chased down by a taxi.
“Maganda ‘yung ginawa ng taxi, dapat pamarisan. Sila ang nakakita at nagbigay ng lead para mahuli ‘yung suspek,” said SPO3 Marco Saunar of the Manila Police District traffic investigation section.
In a text message sent to ABS-CBN News, Binay’s camp said they will provide financial assistance to the victim’s family.
His camp also said the mayor is considering firing Herrera because of the incident. -- Report from Atom Araullo, ABS-CBN News
