MANILA, Philippines - Police on Saturday recovered the Toyota Camry used by the leader of the Padilla Gang, a carjacking group that forcibly took the cars of former Ambassador Roberto Romulo and the father of actor Derek Ramsay.

Inspector Wilson Villaruel of the San Juan City Police Station said the gold Toyota Camry with plate number "6 DOF" was found abandoned at the parking area of Cardinal Santos Medical Center.

Villaruel said the vehicle had 2 bullet holes and its wheels were damaged.

Found inside the Toyota Camry were the driver's license of suspected carjack ring leader Ivan Padilla and his bank passbook. A delivery note for former Ambassador Romulo's car was also recovered the vehicle.

Also seized from the vehicle were ammunition for 9mm pistol and M16 rifle, a magazine vest, a red plate (SHT 281) and several types of car keys.

Villaruel said that according to the hospital's security, the driver of the Toyota Camry parked it and immediately transferred to a waiting car with another person.

Police believe that one of the men who abandoned the Toyota Camry at the hospital's parking area was Padilla.

Padilla's group encountered operatives of the National Capital Region Police Office's (NCRPO) near the Filinvest 2 subdivision in Quezon City on Thursday night.

Two of Padilla's cohorts, Dale Alemagno and Glen del Castillo, were arrested after the encounter. Padilla, meanwhile, was able to escape using another vehicle.

NCRPO chief Roberto Rosales has announced that the Alemagno and Castillo were on board Romulo's Toyota Camry during the encounter.

The vehicle has been turned to the Philippine National Police's Highway Patrol Group for processing.

Villaruel, meanwhile, said that Padilla could have transferred the license plate of Romulo's vehicle to the Toyota Carmy that was abandoned at the hospital's parking area. -- Report from Wheng Hidalgo, ABS-CBN News
