MPD issues traffic advisory for Cory vigil, burial
MANILA - Crowds and traffic are expected in major Metro Manila thoroughfares and areas as the late President Corazon "Cory" Aquino is set to be transferred from La Salle in Green Hills to the Manila Cathedral on Monday (August 3).
Aquino is set to be buried at the Manila Memorial Park on Wednesday (August 5) after a requiem mass at the Manila Cathedral.
The Manila District Traffic Enforcement Unit of the Manila Police District (MPD) issued a traffic advisory effective from August 3 to 5, within which Aquino's necrological service, vigil, and requiem mass will be held.
The MPD announced that the stretch of A. Soriano from Gen. Luna to Cabildo will be closed to traffic at exactly 6 a.m. onwards from Monday to Wednesday.
The following are closure areas from Monday to Wednesday beginning 9 a.m. onwards:
1. Stretch of A. Soriano from Arsobispo to Solana
2. Stretch of Magallanes from A. Soriano to Sta. Potenciana
3. Stretch of Cabildo from A. Soriano to Sta. Potenciana
4. Stretch of Gen. Luna from A. Soriano to Sta. Potenciana
5. Stretch of Sto. Tomas from Gen. Luna to Magallanes
6. Stretch of Beatero from Gen. Luna to Magallanes
7. Stretch of Anda from Gen. Luna to Magallanes
8. Stretch of Real from Gen. Luna to Magallanes
The re-routing of vehicles is as follows:
All public utility jeepneys (PUJ) coming from the three bridges that intend to use the stretch of A. Soriano will take P. Burgos, right Bonifacio Drive, then circling Anda, circle back to point of origin.
Vehicles intending to utilize the stretch of A. Soriano shall take Bonifacio Drive or Taft Ave. to the point of destination.
While all vehicles coming from Riverside Drive or Magallanes Drive shall make a U-turn to Plaza España or take Solana to the point of destination.
