MANILA -- The government of Quezon City is planning to redesign the city based on the urban planning policy of successful cities like Singapore, Mayor Herbert Bautista said on Saturday.

In an interview on radio DZMM, Bautista said the local government wants to follow the footsteps of modern cities.

"We would like to pattern ourselves in terms of urban planning based on the experiences of other cities. Pinag-aaralan namin ang Singapore," Bautista said.

He added that in Singapore, the design of the city changes every 25 years, which makes it an ideal tourist destination.

"Wala naman silang asset, kaya gusto nila nagbabago sila ng nagbabago para puntahan sila ng turista."

"Ganyan din sa amin, for example, in the case of Cubao, gusto namin baguhin na 'yan kasi luma na ang Aurora Boulevard," Bautista added.

The mayor admitted that redesigning Cubao and Aurora Boulevard would be very expensive.

"It will require so much money because, una, traffic, maliit na ang mga kalye. Number 2, kung gusto natin lumapad ang kalye, kelangan bilhin ang mga property," he said.

The government is encouraging business owners to be open to joint ventures which can help lessen the cost of redesigning the area.
