MMDA starts crackdown on colorum vehicles
MANILA, Philippines - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Tuesday kicked off its crackdown on colorum passenger vehicles in the metrpolis.
The MMDA said that more than 100 vehicles, including buses, jeepnes and taxis, were apprehended due to lack of franchise and illegal transfer of plate and for being out of line.
The agency's enforcers temporarily parked the vehicles in White Plains subdivision, beside the People Power Monument.
Among the seized vehicles were 76 units of bus companies Del Carmen, Jac Liner, Victory Liner, Florida Bus, Royal Star, Saint Rose, Lucena Lines, Santrans, Royal Transport, Philippine Corinthian and Genesis.
Five taxis, 9 passenger jeepneys and 29 private vehicles were also seized.
The MMDA's anti-colorum campaign was intensified a week after former Tagaytay City mayor Francis Tolentino was appointed chairman.
Tolentino has promised to declog metro streets of colorum vehicles. He has also promised to strictly enforce the MMDA's number coding scheme. -- Report from Zen Hernandez, ABS-CBN News
