MANILA – A passenger at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) was bitten by a dog that was left unattended by its master.

Henry Prile, who had just arrived from Shanghai, China, was bitten by a mix breed dog after using the comfort room located beside the office of the Assistant General Manager for Security and Emergency Services (AGM-SES) of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA).

MIAA medical personnel said Prile sustained a bite wound to his right thigh.

Prile was given anti-tetanus drug and pain reliever. His wound was also dressed.

Prile was also advised to take anti-rabies vaccine.

Meanwhile, the owner of the dog, Major Melchor de los Santos, was advised to immediately inform Prile and the airport medical unit if ever the dog manifests extraordinary behavior as an effect of the rabies virus.

De Los Santos admitted owning the dog and that he leaves the animal at the space near the comfort room.

Retired Gen. Vicente Guerzon, assistant general manager for security and emergency services, has ordered a probe to determine why a dog was allowed to be placed beside the comfort room.

Guerzon also ordered the immediate removal of the dog in the area to prevent a similar incident from happening in the future. – Raoul Esperas
