300 kilos of 'botcha' seized in Balintawak
MANILA, Philippines – Authorities confiscated about 300 kilos of double dead meat or "botcha" from vendors at the Balintawak Market early Friday morning
The Quezon City Veterinary Office said the double dead pork and chicken meat was discovered during an inspection at the market around 4 a.m.
Last Tuesday, the veterinary office seized more than 100 kilos of double dead pork meat.
Representatives of the veterinary office believe that vendors mix the botcha with fresh meat.
“Yang bagong style nila inihalo sa sariwa. Talagang not fit for human consumption,” said Dr. Ana Maria Cabel of the QC Veterinary Office.
However, vendors denied this.
“Kahit ipaamoy nyo pa yan sa media, sariwa yan,” said vendor Butch Sanchez.
Another vendor claimed that authorities thought she was selling botcha meat. She explained that the meat she was selling had been in the freezer after it was delivered the other day. – Jerome Lantin, ABS-CBN News
