MANILA (UPDATED) - Classes at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) main campus in Sta. Mesa, Manila were suspended starting 12 noon Tuesday due to a bomb threat. The threat later turned out to be a hoax.

In its official Twitter account, the PUP administration said students and employees were asked to evacuate the main building due to the threat. The threat came just hours after the arrest of retired major general Jovito Palparan in Sta. Mesa, Manila. Palparan is wanted for the disappearance of two UP students in 2006.

Dr. Anna Ruby Gapasin, director of the PUP Communication Management Office, later clarified that the bomb threat was merely a hoax after a security check by the Explosive Ordinance Disposal of the Manila Police District.

"Afternoon and night classes in the main academic building are still suspended except for the College of Law," Gapasin said in a statement.
