Lightning strikes LRT-2, stalls ops
MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – A lightning struck the catenary line of the Light Rail Transit (LRT 2) before noon Monday, an official said.
Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) Spokesperson Hernando Cabrera said lightning struck a catenary line of the LRT in Santolan area at around 11:10 a.m.
"The lightning struck down the catenary line of Track No.3 at Santolan Station reversing area thereby preventing any reversion operation," Cabrera said on his Twitter account.
Only operations in Katipunan and Santolan, the last two stations of the LRT 2, were affected.
The operations from Recto to Anonas and vice-versa remained working while repair works were being done to the affected portion of the tracks.
At around 3:25 p.m., Cabrera announced that operations in the affected stations have been restored.
