Malabon evacuates residents near Tullahan river
MANILA- Barangays in Malabon near Tullahan River experienced floods on Monday due to heavy rains beginning Sunday night.
Flood waters reached four feet, but began to recede this morning. Despite this, the city disaster council led by Malabon City Mayor Lenlen Oreta, decided to proceed with the forced evacuation of residents living along Tullahan River in Barangay Potrero.
She fears the situation may get worse also because of the high tide, which is expected to last until Wednesday.
Still, some residents do not see the need yet since their houses have two or three levels. Others, on the other hand, sent children to evacuation centers and stayed put to watch over their things and their houses.
On the other hand, there were residents who were more than happy to evacuate.
The river walls along Tullahan in Malabon has been fixed and upgraded in May but other portions still need to be worked on.
