Skyway becomes 'Skybay' due to floods
MANILA - The Metro Manila Skyway has become a virtual "skybay" after heavy floods in the area kept traffic either slow moving or at a virtual standstill Tuesday morning.
Pictures by DZMM reporter Dennis Datu showed a row of vehicles avoiding the floods by staying at the leftmost lane under the Skyway.
"Skybay na ang Skyway," he noted in one photo.
Another photo showed trucks and buses at a standstill in the area.
Metro Manila Development Authority chairman Francis Tolentino said one cause of the severe flooding near Skyway Magallanes is the overflowing of Maricaban creek.
"We have opened 3 floodgates at Libertad pumping station to lower the flood level at Magallanes area," he told ANC.
"Napakataas po talaga ng tubig hanggang papunta ng Paranaque River," he added.
Meanwhile, Tolentino said traffic at EDSA northbound near White Plains subdivision has become slow moving due to floods near Gate 3 of Camp Aguinaldo.
"May nag u-u-turn sa Gate 3 ng Camp Aguinaldo na nag ka counter-flow kasi half tire na ang flood," he said. With a report by Dennis Datu, radio dzMM
