Infant dies from meningococcemia
MANILA, Philippines - The provincial health office of Rizal has confirmed the death of a 1-year-old boy from San Mateo town due to meningococcemia.
Dr. Hermogenes Certeza, Rizal provincial health officer, said they have taken precautionary measures and provided anti-infection medicine to the victim's immediate family and everyone with whom he came into close contact.
Certeza said the boy was taken to the Amang Rodriguez Hospital in Marikina because of high fever and rashes.
When doctors began to suspect that he was infected with meningococcemia, he was immediately transferred to the San Lazaro Hospital in Manila on Monday morning.
However, the boy died a couple of hours later, at 11 a.m.
