De Lima names BuCor OIC
MANILA, Philippines - Justice Secretary Leila de Lima designated Administrator Manuel Co of the Parole and Probation Administration (PPA) as officer-in-charge of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) for the period of BuCor Director Gaudencio Pangilinan's leave.
Pangilinan went on indefinite leave to give way to the investigation into the disappearance last week of murder convict Rolito Go and his nephew, Clemence Yu, from the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) in Muntinlupa City.
De Lima, through Department Order (DO) No. 678 dated August 22, designated Co to administer the agency.
"The OIC (Co) shall oversee the day-to-day administration of the operations of said Bureau under the direction of the undersigned Sec. of Justice, who shall continue to directly attend to the management of the BuCor with the assistance of the OIC," the order read.
The designation of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Deputy Director Rafael Ragos was also modified to include rendering assistance to both De Lima and Co.
Ragos, through DO No. 677 dated Aug. 17, was "partially detailed in the BuCor" to assist De Lima.
Co was also BuCor OIC in 2011 when then BuCor chief Ernesto Diokno was probed for the Antonio Leviste caper.
