Marikina folk flee homes after river swells anew
MANILA -- Thousands of residents near Marikina River were forced to return to evacuation centers Wednesday night after the water level in the river rose again.
Mayor Del De Guzman said the water level in the river climbed to 17 meters on Wednesday night, prompting authorities to raise Alarm Level 3.
Under Alarm Level 3, residents are told to evacuate. As of 10 a.m., water level at the river was at 16. meters.
De Guzman said they have advised residents in low-lying areas to refrain from going back to their homes and wait until the weather improves.
Marikina has been placed under a state of calamity as 35,839 individuals fled their homes for fear of flooding. – with ANC
