(UPDATE) Airplane swerves upon landing in Manila
MANILA – A plane of Southeast Asian Airlines (SEAIR) swerved out control when it landed at the domestic airport here Sunday.
Radio dzMM reported that the aircraft, arriving from Caticlan, swerved out of control to the grassy portion of Runway 13 around noon. All 32 passengers and three crew members were unharmed.
SEAIR president Avelino Zapanta, meanwhile in a text message, said the Dornier 328 plane of Flight SG024 had “landed normally at the airport and was taxiing to the terminal when it encountered [a] cross windshear that caused the aircraft to veer off the runway.”
The plane reportedly got stuck in the grass at the side of the runway. The runway was temporarily closed while repair crews tried to move the plane, which suffered damage to its landing gear.
The plane was returning from Caticlan, the town that serves the island of Boracay, one of the country's leading beach resorts, airport officials said.
A bus ferried the passengers to the domestic passenger terminal.
Investigation on the incident by airport officials was ongoing. With reports from Zenny Silva, radio dzMM and Agence France-Presse
