MANILA – Transport Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya has accepted the challenge to ride the Metro Rail Transit 3 (MRT 3), which faced a series of technical issues these past few weeks.
Abaya earlier said he will ride the MRT to prove that it is safe.
Netizens have long been calling for government officials to ride the MRT to experience the everyday woes of commuters.
Early this month, a train overshot its track and injured more than 30 passengers.
The accident was blamed on human error. Before that, however, the system experienced technical problems, forcing two MRT drivers to initiate a locking process to push a defective train forward.
Netizens immediately took to social media to react to Abaya’s decision to ride the MRT.
