MANILA - More than 50 women are housed in each of two cells at the Makati City Jail where alleged pork barrel scam player Janet Napoles will be detained, Interior Secretary Mar Roxas said Thursday night.
One of the detainees is a former househelp of Napoles, who she sued for qualified theft, he added.
This -- and alleged threats on Napoles' life -- prompted Roxas to inspect the city jail for himself.
Citing security reasons, Roxas declined to say when Napoles will be brought to jail.
Napoles has been detained at Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters at Camp Crame since her surrender to President Aquino Wednesday night.
She has been charged with serious illegal detention of pork barrel scam whistleblower Benhur Luy.
Her lawyer, Lorna Kapunan, said Napoles surrendered because she feared for her life.
The commitment order on Napoles' transfer was released Thursday after the Criminal Investigation and Detention Group-National Capital Region (CIDG-NCR), through its head Senior Supt. Robeto Fajardo, returned the arrest warrant of Napoles to the court.
Aside from Roxas, PNP Director General Alan Purisima and presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda inspected the Makati facility.
One of the lawyers of Napoles filed an urgent motion for reconsideration, requesting that Napoles be transferred instead to Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig or that she be allowed to stay in Camp Crame.
Atty. Ina Zamora echoed Kapunan's concerns, saying Napoles is in grave and imminent danger and has been receiving death threats.
