Suspect in Dolphy grandson killing arrested
MANILA, Philippines – One of the suspects in the killing of comedian Rodolfo "Dolphy" Quizon's grandson Jerome Carlo Quizon was arrested Tuesday, authorities said.
Suspect Mark Kevin Lapuz, 23, was arrested by police in Barangay Talipapa, Quezon City around 7:30 p.m.
Lapuz, with 4 other suspects, allegedly shot and killed the 14-year-old Quizon on December 2004 after attending the Misa de Gallo at the Lourdes Church in La Loma, Quezon City.
“Nagkatinginan lang ng masama at nagkainitan ang 2 grupo,” said Chief Inspector Jorgie Tabios, Detection and Special Operations Division of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.
A warrant of arrest was immediately issued by Judge Roselyn Rabora of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court branch 94. However, Lapuz was able to evade arrest for 7 years.
Quizon’s family, meanwhile, is pleased with the suspect’s arrest.
“My family is happy the criminal has been arrested…sana wala namang padrino system this time around, mabigyan naman ng justice ang pamangkin ko,” said actor Epi Quizon, the victim’s uncle. -- Report from Gus Abelgas, ABS-CBN News
