MANILA, Philippines – A suspected robber was shot dead in a shootout with police in Taytay, Rizal early Saturday, authorities said.

The suspect and his accomplice allegedly robbed the bag of a certain Rosalie Mariano in front of a bank in Taytay around midnight.

In a follow-up operation by police, they cornered the 2 suspects onboard a motorcycle at the techno park in Barangay San Juan, Taytay, Rizal.

Police said the suspects fired at them, prompting them to engage in a gunfight, which resulted to the death of one of the suspects.

The other suspect driving the motorcycle was able to escape.

Police recovered from the scene a .38 caliber firearm and Mariano’s bag.
