NCRPO checking people behind 2nd pork protest
MANILA - National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Chief Director Marcelino Garbo said he has already ordered his men to conduct a research on the groups which are behind the second protest after the “Million People March.”
While the event won’t happen in less than two weeks, Garbo said the NCRPO is already gearing up for the event dubbed as “EDSA Tayo.”
Meanwhile, the groups behind the “Million People March” denied that they are also the ones behind this looming rally against pork barrel.
Even though the “Million People March” and the “EDSA Tayo” protests have a common goal, the organizers of the first protest believe it is not proper to bring the rally to EDSA because it will cause heavy traffic.
Meanwhile, the government is readying security and traffic management measures for September 11, when citizens are again expected to converge at EDSA to express their outrage again over the misuse of congressional pork barrel funds.
Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said everyone is free to attend the rally.
Organizers said “EDSA Tayo” would be a prayer vigil against corruption. They said the event would demonstrate the anger of citizens against those who embezzle funds meant to help the poor.
Valte refused to speculate if the perception that pork barrel scam suspect Janet Lim-Napoles is receiving special treatment would encourage more people to join the September 11 rally. - with reports from Dennis Datu, dzMM; and Alexis Romero, The Philippine Star
