MANILA – An inmate at the Medium Security Camp (Camp Sampaguita) of the New Bilibid Prison held hostage an employee of the national penitentiary on Monday.
Acting NBP Superintendent Celso Bravo said Dennis Gonzaga ran amok, stabbed two fellow inmates with an ice pick and held hostage NBP employee Susan Igana at around noon.
Bravo said Gonzaga ran amok after being repeatedly teased about how his wife was being wooed by another inmate during her visits.
Gonzaga, who was jailed for parricide, demanded that his mother or any family member be brought to NBP.
He calmed down past 2 p.m. and released Igana after his sister arrived from Laguna.
He also surrendered his ice pick to NBP chaplain, Msgr. Bobby Olaguer, who led the negotiation.
The two inmates stabbed by Gonzaga were already released from the NBP Hospital since their wounds were almost superficial. – report from Dennis Datu, dzMM
