MANILA (4th UPDATE) – Police have arrested three suspects in connection with a foiled car bomb attack at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport terminal 3 (NAIA-3) Monday morning.

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said a white Toyota Revo with plate numer WMK 129 was intercepted at the NAIA Terminal 3 parking lot B loaded with 6 to 8 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) at around 1:45 a.m.

Three suspects were arrested by elements of the National Bureau of Investigation Anti-Organized and Transnational Crime Division (NBI-AOTCD), and NBI Counter-Terrorism Division (NBI-CTD).

Aside from the IEDs, several firearms were also seized from the suspects.

Airport sources said the suspects were apprehended while they were assembling the IEDs inside the vehicle parked at the NAIA 3 open parking lot.

The NBI said it received a tip about the planned attack about a month ago before being finally informed about the presence of the suspects at the NAIA 3 parking lot on Sunday evening.

The NBI said the suspects appeared to be targeting to bomb NAIA and a nearby mall. An investigation has been launched to determine the affiliation of the arrested suspects.

Documents found inside the car showed the vehicle was registered to a person who lives in Baliwag, Bulacan.

Gen. Vicente Guerzon, MIAA senior assistant general manager, has placed the entire NAIA complex on full alert.

Guerzon immediately called for an emergency meeting with the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group, Office for Transportation Security (OTS), and local PNP from Pasay and Parañaque cities. – Raoul Esperas; with Dexter Ganibe, Ricky Velasco, Henry Atuelan, and Noel Alamar, dzMM; Zyann Ambrosio, ABS-CBN News
