Elusive ex-Abra gov nabbed in Makati
Police finally caught up on ex-Abra governor Vicente Valera, who was accused of masterminding the murder of his cousin and political rival, former Abra congressman Luis Bersamin more three years ago.
Valera was arrested by the Philippine National Police's (PNP) Task Force Bersamin Bravo at his condominium unit on the Hidalgo Towers' 3rd floor in Rockwell, Makati on Tuesday 10:30 pm.
Before his arrest, trackers teams were formed by the PNP raided Valera's 2 houses in Xavierville Subdivision and Fairview in Quezon City. Two more known houses of Valera in Anda town, Pangasinan province and Cavite province have also been raided by police.
Valera was arrested by virtue of an arrest warrant issued last August 10 by Judge Luisito Cortez of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court.
The former governor was accused of masterminding the murder of Congressman Bersamin and his police escort, Senior Police Officer 1 Adolfo Ortega, inside the compound of Mount Carmel Church in New Manila, Quezon City last Dec. 16, 2006.
A P500,000 reward has been offered by the authorities for the arrest of the former governor. A reward has also been set for the capture of his security aide, former military sergeant Leo Bello.
The former governor's other aides Jerry Torquesa and Leo Bruno are also facing charges of double murder and frustrated murder for the congressman's killing.
The former governor has been brought to the PNP's national headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City. With a report from Doland Castro, ABS-CBN News
