Manila hawkers, vendors clash in Divisoria
MANILA – Members of the Manila Hawkers Office clashed with vendors in Divisoria, injuring one of the vendors.
The vendors said some of the hawkers threatened them with guns. One vendor said he was hit in the head with a gun.
“Tinulak nila ako hanggang nakarating ako doon, sinipa pa ako, at inabot ng bakal,” said Anthony Pawin.
The Divisoria vendors are appealing to Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada not to use force against them and to discipline the city hall's hawkers.
Danny Sta. Maria, head of the city hall hawkers, denied that his men were armed with guns.
“Unang-una, ang tao namin walang baril,” he said.
Sta. Maria added that the man carrying the gun was not part of his group.
Police said they are now looking for the armed man and will file physical injury complaints against him. -- Report from Zyann Ambrosio, ABS-CBN News
