2 suspects tagged in Burgundy Tower shooting
MANILA (UPDATE) – Two security guards are accused of killing Jimmy Lagunsad, a fellow security guard from a different agency, who was shot dead at the Burgundy Tower in Makati on Thursday.
The two suspects from the SWAG Security Agency, Reymond Leon and Mark Anthony Romero, will face murder charges.
Makati Police Chief Sr. Supt. Manuel Lukban said the two suspects admitted to firing their shotguns, but can't tell who was responsible for killing Lagunsad.
But the suspects' lawyer argues that his clients fired in self-defense since Lagunsad's group was about to attack them.
The two guards are among the security guards taken into custody following the shooting incident Thursday afternoon.
Lukban said the suspects’ colleagues were the ones who tagged them as the gunmen.
Management of the Makati building said the altercation between the two security agencies stemmed from an intra-corporate dispute between the new and former board of directors.
One group is headed by Wilfredo Serafica while the other is led by Ramon Garcia.
Garcia's group was able to secure a temporary restraining order (TRO) against Serafica and as the sheriff was serving the TRO, the shooting ensued.
The situation in Burgundy Tower has since returned to normal and over 100 security guards brought in for questioning have been released. -- Report from Pinky Webb, ABS-CBN News
