Solar-powered LED bulbs to light up Manila streets
MANILA – The streets of Manila will soon be lit up by solar-powered LED bulbs following an agreement between the local government and a Korean company.
Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Global Gold Goal Inc., a local subsidiary of a Korean consortium group, on Friday.
Under the MOA, the Korean firm will donate 10,000 units or P2.2 billion worth of solar-powered LED street lights to the city of Manila.
The street lights will be accompanied by closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and LED display signboards.
The use of renewable energy resources like solar light is mandated by Republic Act 9153 or the Renewable Energy Act of 2008.
The project is expected to be completed in 2 years. -- Report from Zyann Ambrosio, ABS-CBN News
