MANILA, Philippines - The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said Tuesday that it will deploy policemen in malls to make sure that the armed group that carried out a daring mall heist in nearby Cavite province will not attack in Metro Manila.

Director Leocadio Santiago, NCRPO chief, said police desks will be placed in the metro malls' entrances to assist security guards.

Santiago said the NCRPO will also meet with security managers of all malls in Metro Manila to discuss security measures being implemented in the establishments.

He said the move was in reaction to the daring robbery at the SM City Dasmariñas in Cavite province on Monday morning, carried out by at least 5 gunmen.

A mall security guard and an employee were hurt during the attack.

Santiago said that after the mall robbery, he placed all units in Metro Manila on heightened alert status in anticipation of similar incidents in the metropolis.

He said that the NCRPO is expecting incidents of robbery in Metro Manila as the Holiday Season nears. – with a report from Gus Abelgas, ABS-CBN News
