Anti-littering campaign starts Sept 16
MANILA, Philippines- Litterbugs, beware.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will start re-implementing Regulation Number 96-009, otherwise known as the "Anti Littering Law", effective September 16.
The Anti-Littering Law penalizes people who indiscriminately dump garbage that clog up waterways. Under the law, all business establishments are required to maintain the cleanliness of their frontages and immediate surroundings.
Violators wil be issued with Environmental Violation Receipt (EVR) and corresponding fines ranging from P500 to P1,000.
Those who cannot afford to pay the administrative fines will be required to render community service.
MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said that the public is expected to actively cooperate since the aim of the drive is beneficial to all. “We will be going around the LGUs and conduct information and education campaign for public awareness before we start our actual apprehension,” Tolentino said.

Ano Chairman Tolentino??? Sa September 16 pa ang re-implementation ng anti-littering law? Bakit hindi ngayon mismo? Bakit hindi bukas? Ang “bait” nyo naman. Binibigyan nyo pa ng pagkakataon na magkalat at magtapon ng basura ang mga tao kahit sa saan hanggang September 15, 2010. Ibang klase kayo talaga. Mag-sip naman kayo paminsan-minsan.
Sana hindi na NINGAS-KUGON this time.
Tama lang yan! Kung sa ibang bansa tuwang-tuwa tayo at sumusunod sa batas nila about the anti-littering, Bakit dito sa atin hindi natin magawa! It's about time na maging disiplinado na lahat ng Pinoy dito sa Pinas. At sana sunod na implement is yung SEGREGATION ng mga basura.

Wow! Salamat po sa ating mga kapulisan at binigyan pansin nila muli ang problemang ito. Nakakalungkot po talaga na makita na marami sa ating mga kababayan ang tapon na lang ng tapon ng basura sa ating kapaligiran. Bata, matanda, at marami pang iba ang tila walang bahala sa pwedeng mangyari kung tayo ay magtatapon na lamang ng ating basura sa kalsada. Sa amin pong lugar sa UP Village ay isang good example. Tuwing madaling umaga sa aking pag-pasok sa opisina, kitang-kita po ang dami ng basura sa kalye Masaya Street hanggang PHILCOA. Marami po dito ang napupunta sa gutters at tuloy-tuloy sa drainage manholes. Candy wrappers, styrofoam boxes, plastic wrappers, etc. Ito po ang tingin kong dahilan kaya bumabaha sa lugar namin. Kaya I am gratefule that this campaign is back again. I hope the authorities will use all its powers to implement this effort.
