Espina's replacement named
MANILA, Philippines – Newly installed National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Leonardo Espina has relinquished his post as chief of the Philippine National Police – Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG).
Chief Superintendent Arrazad Subong, NCRPO's Chief Directorial Staff, has been named as Espina's replacement.
Subong is no stranger to PNP's anti-road crimes unit, where he used to serve as deputy chief for operations.
He also received today PNP's Medalya ng Kasanayan for his outstanding service. The medal was presented by Espina and PNP chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome at the NCRPO headquarters in Taguig.
Subong will sit as PNP-HPG's officer-in-charge while waiting for an official turnover.
Espina replaced Chief Supt. Alan Purisima, who was promoted to chief directorial staff post.
The turnover of leadership at the PNP in the capital also comes at a time when crime rate in Metro Manila is on the rise.
Espina has a big task ahead, including cleaning the institution of erring policemen. Immediately after he took office, his son was allegedly victimized by two Quezon City policemen in an extortion attempt. – with a report from Henry Atuelan, dzMM
