PMA cadet miraculously wakes up from coma
MANILA, Philippines – A Philippine Military Academy (PMA) cadet who fought a robber and got shot in the head is now out of coma.
Cadet First Class Alfonso Aviles was transferred last Friday from the intensive care unit to a regular room at the Armed Forces Medical Center.
Aviles fought for his life for days due to a gunshot wound in the head, which he sustained while tackling a jeepney robber last August 25.
Although Aviles still cannot respond to questions, his right eye has already opened. His doctors and family consider this progress a miracle.
The shooting incident occurred while Aviles, 23, and several senior cadets were in Metro Manila to serve as proctors in the PMA entrance examination.
They were given free time that Saturday and Aviles visited his parents in San Jose Del Monte town in Bulacan.
The PMA cadet was returning from Bulacan when an armed man declared robbery inside a jeepney in Fairview, Quezon City.
Aviles tried to grab the robber's pistol, which went off.
He was hit in the neck and the bullet got stuck in his head.
The unidentified robber remains at large. – with a report from Gretchen Malalad, ABS-CBN News
