1 killed, 3 hurt in Manila fire
MANILA -- A man was killed while his wife and children were injured after fire hit a residential-commercial building along Leonor Rivera corner Blumentritt Street in Sta. Cruz, Manila before dawn on Friday.
The fatality was identified as Andrew Tang.
Tang's wife, Kristine, and their children, Kevin and Aldrin, sustained minor injuries in the incident.
The Manila Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the fire started from the second floor of the building at 2:57 a.m.
It reached the fourth alarm before it was declared out at 3:44 a.m.
Authorities suspect the fire was caused by an electric fan that was left unattended.
Tang's body was recovered from the second floor.
Kristine and the two children were rescued after the firefighters destroyed the locks of the doors.
The cost of damage caused by the blaze is estimated at P1 million.
