Habagat dumps rains over Metro Manila
MANILA – The state weather bureau on Sunday warned residents in Metro Manila and nearby areas in Luzon of possible flash floods and landslide due to strong rains brought by the southwest monsoon (habagat).
PAGASA said the habagat was expected to bring cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon and Mimaropa.
The rest of Luzon and Visayas were forecast to have cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms, while Mindanao was expected to have partly to cloudy with isolated rains and thunderstorms.
At 5:55 p.m., PAGASA also issued a yellow rainfall advisory over Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Bulacan, Bataan and portions of Quezon, Pampanga, Zambales and Occidental Mindoro.
The state weather bureau said the moderate to occasional heavy rainfall in these areas was most likely to continue for the next three hours.
The strong rains have already submerged flood-prone areas in Metro Manila.
