MANILA, Philippines – More than 10,000 people have souight refuge in evacuation centers in Muntinlupa City after they were affected by the increasing water level in Laguna de Bay.
The Muntinlupa police reported that a total of 2,725 families or 10,605 individuals are currently staying in 14 different evacuation centers -- most of them are public schools.
Most of the evacuees left their homes last August because of the flooding in barangays Tunasan, Poblacion, Cupang, Buli, Lakeshore Alabang, Lakeshore Sucat, at the Philippine National Railways site and in Putatan.
Because of the moderate rains last Friday, the water level in Laguna Lake is still not receding.
Authorities said they are expecting the residents to stay in evacuation centers for a longer time. – from a report by Dexter Ganibe, dzMM
