Anti-pork rally held outside Ombudsman
MANILA - Members of Akbayan party-list group and People Power Volunteers for Reform gathered in front of the Ombudsman on Monday to call for the "swift and judicious prosecution" of those involved in the P10 billion pork barrel scam.
The group also used whistles to symbolize their support for the whistle blowers, lauding them for their courage in exposing the massive racket.
Akbayan secretary-general Emman Hizon said that they have no problem waiting for the rest of the accused to be charged before the Ombudsman, since the Department of Justice said that this was only the first batch of complaints that they plan to file.
Hizon also said that they will be patient in waiting for a resolution.
"Nakapaghintay tayo sa kaso laban kay dating Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez, nakapaghintay din tayo sa kaso laban kay dating Supreme Court Justice Renato Corona. Makapaghihintay din tayo ngayon," said Hizon.
Akbayan said they also support the abolition of the pork barrel, but was quick to qualify that certain lump sum funds of President Aquino may be necessary to perform his duties.
