Barangay poll bets barred from using 4P in campaign
MANILA – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Commission on Elections (Comelec) signed a joint memorandum circular on Tuesday to prevent personalities from using the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4P) as leverage for the upcoming Barangay Elections.
DSWD Sec. Dinky Soliman said elections are one of the crucial periods in the implementation of the 4P's program as several candidates use the program to advance their own political interests.
She said that they have received complaints wherein beneficiaries were threatened to be taken out of the program if they fail to support a candidate.
Soliman noted that even DSWD workers are being used by these politicians.
The secretary said that with stronger participation among the DSWD and the DILG and Comelec, the number of such cases will decrease this elections.
The public is encouraged to report such cases to the DSWD by calling their hotline number +639189122813 or by sending an email to [email protected].
