Erap, Isko file COCs
MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – Former President Joseph Estrada and running mate Isko Moreno on Tuesday morning filed their certificates of candidacy at the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
The Estrada-Moreno tandem, running under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), arrived at the Comelec office in Arroceros in a motorcade along with 36 candidates for the city council.
The running mates filed their COCs at around 11 a.m.
Asked by reporters about the issue of his residency in Manila, Estrada said: "There's no boundary in serving the people, especially the marginalized people. Walang hangganan sa paglilingkod sa taumbayan, lalo na sa mahihirap nating kababayan. Hindi ako titigil hanggang sa huli ng hininga ko to serve our people."
"Tapos na ako sa San Juan eh. Tsaka magandang-maganda na ang San Juan. Itong Maynila pagagandahin natin naman," added Estrada, who began his career in politics as San Juan mayor.
Estrada is going up against incumbent Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim, who is seeking his third term as the city's chief executive.
On the other hand, Moreno, the city's incumbent vice mayor, will defend his post against Lim's running mate, veteran actor and long-serving Manila councilor Lou Veloso.
Moreno used to support Lim, but the two had a falling out.
Lim and Veloso submitted their COCs on the first day of filing yesterday. – with reports from Dharel Placido, ABS-CBNnews.com; Alex Calda, dzMM; and Francis Faulve, ABS-CBN News
