Motive in FEU stabbing still unclear
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) has yet to determine the motive behind the stabbing incident inside the campus of the Far Eastern University (FEU) on Wednesday.
Police said one of the identified suspects has yet to surrender.
FEU officials, meanwhile, will conduct their own investigation to identify the 4 other suspects captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed inside the school.
They also assured parents that their children are safe inside campus premises.
School officials have also confirmed earlier reports that the incident happened inside the science building, and that one of the suspects is a graduating nursing student.
The student has been placed in preventive suspension to give way for the criminal investigation, officials said.
Reports said 5 female students pepper-sprayed and then stabbed 20-year-old student of the University of Sto. Tomas, Joanne Lourdes Reyes, inside the FEU campus in Manila.
Reyes was brought to Chinese General Hospital after sustaining stab wounds.
FEU has refused to release CCTV footage of the stabbing incident to the media to protect the identities of other bystanders.
However, they have surrendered the footage to the PNP for a thorough investigation. -- Report from Jeff Canoy, ABS-CBN News
