Alleged Manila cop's killer falls
MANILA, Philippines – One of two suspects in the killing of a Manila policemen over the weekend has been arrested, police said on Monday.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Chief Supt. Leonardo Espina identified the arrested suspect as Antonio Lalu, one of the alleged killers of PO1 Ryan Bagadiong of the Manila Police District Station 5.
Lalu, 45, was arrested in Del Pan, Tondo, Manila before dawn today.
Espina said the police are still verifying if Lalu's alleged cohort was shot dead in a police encounter in Marikina recently.
Lalu and another suspect are being tagged in the killing of Bagadiong last Saturday near the United States Embassy.
Bagadiong, who was detailed outside the US Embassy in Manila, was said to be on his way home when he saw a motorcycle travelling against the flow of traffic along UN Avenue at the corner of Del Pilar Street.
Witnesses said the policeman flagged down the motorcycle and ordered the suspects to get down on the ground. Bagadiong was about to search the suspects when a commotion ensued and shots were fired at the policeman.
Bagadiong was said to have called for back up before he was shot. His service firearm is missing and believed to have been stolen by the suspects.
