Two U-turn slots closed in QC
MANILA (2nd UPDATE) – Two U-turn slots in Quezon City were closed to motorists on Thursday in an attempt to ease traffic during rush hours.
The U-turn slot in C-5 Eastwood was closed from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
“Kasi sa hapon, nandiyan karamihan ang congestion sa northbound,” said Neomie Recio, director of Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s (MMDA) traffic engineering section.
The U-turn slot along Quezon Avenue between Examiner and Scout Borromeo Streets, meanwhile, was permanently closed to traffic.
The local government said the decision was made following observations of heavy traffic build-up due to the U-turn slots.
Some motorists criticized the move, saying it is an inconvenience.
“Napaka-walang kwenta ng nagsara niyan, hindi ba nila alam na ang iikutin ng mamamayan na dadaan diyan ay kokonsumo ng gasolina?” said one motorist.
The Quezon City government and the MMDA initially planned to also close the C-5 Katipunan-Boni Serrano U-turn slot on Thursday, but authorities decided to suspend the implementation to avoid confusion among motorists. -- Reports from Jeff Canoy and Bettina Magsaysay, ABS-CBN News
